Remember Tootsie? A couple of years ago, I found this fantastic blue polyester dress for $2 on the clearance rack at the University District Red Light store in Seattle, Washington. The striped navy blue dress with the pop of deep red flowers at the bottom desperately needed to be reborn. The frilly high neckline and the elasticized cuffs on the sleeves would have to go. Dustin could’ve rocked this look as Tootsie in 1982, but in 2012, it’s just cliche.
To take it from 1982 to 2012, I decided to refab it into a racerback tank dress. The front now has a plunging scoop neckline with a deep red peekaboo tube top to bring some of the attention at the bottom of the skirt up to the neckline. I also made a 1 inch belt (out of the old sleeves) to give the dress more shape by creating a visual break at the waist.
What would you have done with it?
Many thanks to Dionysia for donating the fabric that became the tube top in this refab.
