I love new beginnings. I’ve always been a fan of change and growth. But it took a lot more courage than I thought to put in my notice to leave a pretty cushy gig at a mega-giant software company. But it was time. Because after pretty much doing the same thing for 7 years, the only thing I could really do to change my game and dislodge the creative rut that I feel like I am in is to leave. I really believe that a break will rejuvenate my work and creativity in a way that wouldn’t be possible if I stayed.
So next week is my last week and everyone keeps asking me what’s next. Well friends–you know me. I have plans! Plans to spend my time wisely and productively by taking a break. So I’ll be working towards some personal goals that I’ve had for some time now–which include a lot of rock climbing, working on design projects (like designing clothes, making interesting art, and carving a wooden spoon), and maintaining this blog.
Stefan Sagmeister puts it best in his video about taking breaks to refresh creativity.
